Overview

South Tyneside Councils Highways Department is consulting on the creation of a Resident Permit Parking Scheme in the Seafield Terrace and Beach Road areas of South Shields.

A parking permit scheme is one way to control on-street parking. Individual households or commercial premises are issued with parking permits for the use of specified vehicles. It is not a way of controlling access to certain areas.

A parking permit entitles a recipient to park legally within the boundaries of their nominated scheme. Permits for an individual scheme may NOT be used to secure parking within the boundaries of a different scheme.

In addition to the above, the schemes will:

  • remove long term non-residential or commuter parking.
  • control and assist with the safe movement of traffic.

Importantly this scheme does not restrict all cars from parking in the area. Vehicles can still park if issued with a visitor permit by a resident.

(Costs are subject to change depending on timeframe of the scheme)

Why your views matter

Your views are important as we develop these projects. By letting us know what you, the resident of South Tyneside would like to see, we will be able to make appropriate changes to the scheme to ensure that it has the best chance of becoming an appropriate and worthwhile part of South Tyneside’s Highway Network.

Equally, should this scheme not be favoured then following the consultation, or trial it may not be progressed further.

All of the documents associated with this scheme are located at the bottom of this page and can be downloaded freely to view and provide comment.

What happens next

Once the consultation ends the Parking Team will analyse the results of the online survey and any other feedback they may recieve they will feedback as necessary. After this point the scheme may progress as planned, alter, or be cancelled as appropritate.
