Victoria Road East / Ushaw Road, Hebburn - Proposed Zebra Crossing
Overview
South Tyneside Council are writing to residents to gauge their thoughts on a road safety proposal in your area.
The school crossing patrol which operates the crossing point on Victoria Road East / Ushaw Road is integral to the safety of pedestrians commuting to and from the local school.
However, it is becoming increasingly difficult to fill school crossing patrol vacancies and find replacements when some of our patrols are off work for any reason. At present we do not have this crossing patrol point covered, and we don’t have any cover available, as stated, this is becoming ever more difficult.
There is no guarantee that we will be able to cover these crossing points in the future, and therefore it is proposed to install a zebra crossing at this location. The crossing would provide a safe crossing facility 24 hours per day and would provide cover in the absence of any crossing patrol.
The Zig Zag Road markings which are associated with the crossing would remove minimal on-street car parking spaces outside of properties and we may receive objections to this; however, we have attempted to keep the disruption to an absolute minimum.
