A consultation was recently carried out proposing that a section of double yellow lines on Ushaw Road be removed to allow parking.

 Responses received in total:

  • 4 from residents of Ushaw Road
  • 1 from resident of Fernyhough Hall
  • 1 from visitor to Fernyhough Hall
  • 1 from resident Bonnar Court

Feedback:

  • 5 against the proposal
  • 2 in favour

One resident submitted a series of photographs taken during the consultation that highlighted access issues.

 Decision:

The fundamental responsibility of the Highway Authority is to ensure the safe and free flow of traffic. Given the balance of responses and the evidence provided. It is highly probable that removing the existing restrictions would increase the risk of obstruction for residents, service vehicles, pedestrians, and emergency access.

It is therefore decided that the current double yellow lines on Ushaw Road remain in place and no changes will be made.

We thank you for your assistance in this matter.

Overview

Some residents and visitors to Fernyhough Hall have requested that the double yellow lines on the east side of the street be removed to allow parking.

We understand this may not be welcomed by all, particularly residents who have been inconvenienced by inconsiderate motorists parking across their driveways in the past. But we aim to find a balance between maintaining access and improving parking for visitors.

The purpose of this survey is to assess whether residents, visitors and emergency services believe that removing the double yellow lines on one side of Ushaw Road, Hebburn would improve or harm access, safety and convenience.

Why your views matter
