Reading Road Area, South Shields - School Safety Improvements
Overview
South Tyneside Council's Traffic and Road Safety Team (STC) is seeking feedback from residents on a proposal to introduce a crossing point on Temple Park Road, South Shields, and implement junction protection around Mortimer Community College.
As part of STC's ongoing commitment to creating a safer environment for all highway users, the scheme has been drafted and allocated funding. This includes measures such as junction protection with yellow lines and school keep clears to enhance safety around schools.
The General Arrangement drawing (TRS05-LTP-2025 01-1) outlines the proposed parallel crossing on Reading Road / Temple Park Road, South Shields. The plan includes detailed arrangements for the crossing point and safety measures to be implemented.
The TRO Consultation drawing (TRS05-LTP-2025 01-1) provides an overview of the proposed road safety scheme on Reading Road. It highlights the specific safety measures planned for the area, including junction protection and enhancements around Mortimer Community College.
The supplementary plans show, in more detail, each junction.
The team recognises that this may affect some residents more than others, particularly those living near the junctions. They encourage these residents to voice any concerns they may have during the consultation process. It should be noted that the team has made every effort to minimise issues when assessing each junction.
South Tyneside Council remains dedicated to ensuring the safety of all residents and road users.
The proposals can be seen below.
