Monkton Lane, Jarrow Traffic Calming - Formal Consultation
Overview
South Tyneside Councils Road Safety Department are consulting on a proposed traffic calming scheme in your area.
In our ongoing efforts to reduce road traffic collisions and improve road safety, South Tyneside Council are proposing to install traffic calming on Monkton Lane, Jarrow.
It is envisaged the traffic calming will help maintain low vehicle speeds and create a safer environment for highway users.
The proposed traffic calming location has been chosen in accordance with design guidance and standards set by the Department for Transport. This is to ensure that motorists maintain a constant vehicle speed and are deterred from accelerating and braking between features which results in a passive style of driving, at a lower but constant speed, contributing to lower noise levels.
Please see below, proposals for the consultation and legal notice.
If you wish to raise an objection, express support or make any other observations about these proposals, you must make them in writing to the below address below or by emailing roadsafetyconsultations@southtyneside.gov.uk by the 29 Dec 2025.
