The consultation exercise for Harbour View is now closed.

The response rate was poor at only 28.57% which equates to four households from the 14 consulted.

Of those responses one household was for the proposed changes and three households were against the proposed changes.

The main objections given where that it would result in vehicles being blocked in the resident parking bays and encourage fishermen to park in the street.

The bays situated at the bottom of Harbour View are not allocated to residents and form part of the adopted highway. Any person may park in those bays including fisherman.

The resident requesting the removal of the restrictions is fully aware of the possible consequences should the lines be removed and is willing to suffer the consequences.

The parking bays on the western side of the cul-de-sac are not protected by double yellow lines and to date we have not received any complaints regarding vehicles being blocked in the parking bays.

Therefore, we have made the decision to remove the short section of double yellow lines on a trial basis. We will review the situation after 6 months. If we experience an unacceptable level of obstructions to the highway, we will replace the restrictions.

Overview

South Tyneside Council's Parking Team (STC) have been asked by residents to consider the removal of a short section of double yellow lines.
