The informal consultation for this scheme is now closed. The response rate was below average with x6 residents completing the survey and x2 emailing the department.
There were no objections to the extension of restrictions at the junction with Bede Burn Road and therefore we will be commencing a formal consultation in relation to that proposal.
You will soon see a legal notice posted on site and an advert will be published in the Shields Gazette. Instructions on how to respond will be included within the notice.
We did receive objections from residents regarding our proposal to extend the restrictions at the junction with Havelock / Kitchener Terrace to bring them in line with current recommendations. They stated, “Extending the double yellow lines is unnecessary and will reduce parking capacity to residents” and “The markings at Havelock and Field Terrace do not need extending. What problem is being solved by extending them?”.
Therefore, we will not be moving forward to a formal consultation with this part of the proposal. We will continue to monitor the area closely and in the event of any collisions where reduced visibility is a contributing factor we may reconsider our decision.
Overview
South Tyneside Council recently installed a dropped crossing point on Field Terrace at its junction with Bede Burn Road. The existing No waiting at Any Time and No Loading / Unloading at Any Time restrictions require extending by a few metres to protect the crossing. We are also revising the restrictions on Field Terrace at its junction with Havelock Terrace where speed humps were installed.
