Edinburgh Road / Glasgow Road, Jarrow - Proposed Zebra Crossing
Overview
South Tyneside Council are writing to resident to gauge their thoughts on a road safety proposal in your area.
The school crossing patrol currently managing the crossing point on Edinburgh Road plays a crucial role in ensuring the safety of pedestrians traveling to and from the local school. However, we are facing increasing challenges in filling vacancies for school crossing patrols and securing replacements when current patrols are unavailable. At this moment, we do not have coverage for this crossing point, and the situation is becoming increasingly difficult.
There is no assurance that we will be able to maintain coverage for these crossing points in the future. Therefore, we propose the installation of a zebra crossing at this location. This crossing would offer a safe passage for pedestrians around the clock, serving as a reliable alternative in the absence of a crossing patrol.
The associated Zig-Zag road markings MAY necessitate the removal of some on-street parking spaces in front of certain properties, which may lead to objections. However, we have made efforts to minimize disruption as much as possible. Consequently, we intend to consult briefly with the directly impacted residents before initiating any formal consultation process.
