Addison Road, West Boldon
Results updated 12 Jan 2024
We had a good return rate from residents we wrote to. Of those who responded 50% were in favour of the proposal and 50% were against. From the responses we learned that some residents rely on the bay as their sole parking area. Others had regular visits from carers or relatives and the proposed restriction would severely impact them.
We also had a very strong response from non-residents expressing support for the Post Office. Many stated that they had experienced problems parking and suggested they would use the post office more frequently if there was more parking.
Unfortunately, due to the carriageway constraints it isn’t possible to create more parking so we must be realistic about the level of impact a change to waiting times would have.
Therefore, after careful consideration and taking into account data we received from the independent parking survey, we will not go ahead with our proposal and the parking bays will remain unrestricted. We acknowledge that this will not resolve old issues, but it won’t create new ones that would be far more intrusive for residents.
Overview
South Tyneside Council's (STC) Parking Team have been asked to introduce parking restrictions on Addison Road, West Boldon.
It has been reported that there is insufficient turnover of the parking spaces to support local businesses.
We propose to introduce a limited stay of 30 minutes with return prohibited within 4 hours in the parking bays on the northern kerbline.
We also propose to introduce No Waiting and No Loading restrictions to maintain the safe and free flow of traffic.
